What European media philanthropy can do to improve and attain equity, diversity and inclusion in journalism funding

Building on the discussion from our latest newsletter edition the Journalism Funders Forum will now host a webinar on what European media philanthropy can do to improve and attain equity, diversity and inclusion in journalism funding. In the wake of the killing of George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement is pushing institutions and societies to move beyond expressions of solidarity and good intentions to transparent self-examination and action. Media philanthropy is no exception.

You are kindly invited to join us for a funder-only webinar on Wednesday, June 24th to discuss issues such as:

  • Diversifying staffing, boards and decision-making (including data),
  • Reducing power asymmetries with applicants and grantees, and,
  • Increasing or improving the diversity of the ‘pipeline’, including increasing the number of minority-owned, minority-led organisations and networks in the field.

The webinar will be moderated by Sameer Padania and you’ll hear from Susan Valentine, Acting Director of the Program on Independent Journalism at OSF. We’re also in contact with Democracy Fund and The Engine Room and will keep you updated on the speaker lineup.
